Spit to Manly Walk is one of the most popular bush and coastal walks near Sydney. It is also known as Manly Scenic Walkway and is one of the most beautiful walks offering different views of the North and Middle Heads, passing by various kinds of beaches and parks. It is a very enjoyable walk as it has different kinds of tracks - plain bush, wooden and steel paths, rocky stairs, and also some urban and residential paths nearer Manly Beach.
This walk can also be taken the opposite way - from Manly to Spit, which I reckon is easier as that way is more downhill. However we chose to go from Spit to Manly so we have Manly Beach to look forward to at the end of the walk.
The Spit to Manly walk is about 10km, and can be more or less depending if you take the different detours or tracks to see more lookouts along the way. Being popular, it is a very busy path, with a lot of walkers and runners doing the walk as well.
I went with a couple of friends as this is my first bush walk of this distance. We chose to start at the North end of Spit Bridge where there is an underpass access to the Fisher Bay Walking Track. To get here we took Bus 320 and then 144 at Crows Nest, because my friend comes from Mascot. From the city, you can also take Bus 169 from Wynyard to get to "Battle Bvd at Manly Rd" bus stop.
Fisher Bay Walk
Fisher Bay Walk is the first track in this walk. It goes from Spit Bridge to Sandy Bay. It is a nice walk around Shelly Cove and is well shaded by a lot of greenery.- Manly Scenic Walkway Part 1: Fisher Bay Walk
